New Lotus Exige could get V6 engine

Lotus has been keeping us well in the loop with the plans of expansion over the next decade. So here’s another update.

The Norfolk, UK manufacturer has apparently announced that the new Exige replacement’s engine will be a V6. Not too long ago, word was bouncing around that some journalists spotted a V6 Exige test mule running around last summer. That V6 was most likely the usual Toyota-sourced 3.5L V6, the same engine found in the current Lotus Evora.

Other details that said Lotus was serious about this project were the noticeably wider tracks to accommodate the larger engine. A longer wheelbase was also observed.

With Lotus equipping the new Exige with a larger engine, Lotus can definitely expand on the model offerings for the Exige because the Toyota V6 can be had in two forms and can be mated to an automatic or a manual transmission. It also may be possible that Lotus could unveil their new Exige fairly soon at this year’s upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Only time will tell.
