Former Lincoln Popemobile being auctioned off

1964 Lincoln Continental Limousine

The Quail Lodge auto auction is an upcoming even in California that puts a variety of interesting vehicles up. One outstanding model is a 1964 Lincoln Continental Limousine that was customized for Pope Paul VI.

The former Pope was coming to New York City from the Vatican in 1985, and needed the car to travel through the streets of the city on a trip to the United Nations. He gave a speech there for World Peace.

Customizations to the limousine start with exterior changes such as handrails and step plates. Extra seating was included on the interior, and the electronics were modified to include a public address system. The roof came off so the Pope could have direct contact with those who wanted to visit with him.

Not only did Pope Paul VI travel in this special Limo, but it also once transported the Apollo astronauts, even Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin through Chicago during honorary celebrations.

The former Pope mobile should auction off in the range of $250,000 and $350,000.
