New Lexus GS to get diesel variant in Europe
Next month Lexus will debut the 2012 GS 350 at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. According to reports, Lexus will introduce a 4-cylinder diesel engine for the GS in Europe to compete with the likes of the BMW 5-Series diesel and Mercedes-Benz E-Class diesel.
Sources say that the brand will offer the GS Hybrid but also acknowledge the need to “broaden the appeal of the brand and make it more accessible — and we certainly haven’t given up on diesel.”
The 4-cylinder diesel engine will debut on the new Lexus GS in 2013 and the company says that the model will start a “new direction” for the brand.
Currently, the only Lexus diesel model sold in the UK is the IS, which is powered by a 148-hp 2.2 liter unit.
