Report: Audi CEO wants new factory in Mexico

2012 Audi A5

We reported earlier this month that Audi’s CEO Rupert Stadler expects sales to go up by 10 to 20 percent this year and expects sales to hit 150,000 units by 2015. For that reason, Audi has been debating whether to build a new plant in North America.

Instead of using the U.S. factory of parent Volkswagen, Audi prefers to build its own manufacturing plant in Mexico, according to a report by German Magazine Manager Magazin.

It’s not clear whether Audi will have its way in face of opposition from Volkswagen’s top bosses, who would most likely want Audi to use Volkswagen’s new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Audi’s said that its lineup will increase from 38 models in 2011 to 42 in 2015 and 50 by 2020 on global scale.
