Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, which consists of the Hyundai and Kia brand, is South Korea’s largest auto manufacturer, the second largest automaker in Asia after Toyota and the world’s fourth largest automaker after Toyota, GM, and Volkswagen. However, the two treat each other like any other automaker would treat their competitor.

“Kia Motors America operates as a completely separate sales, marketing and distribution organization in the United States,” said Michael Sprague, the vice president for Kia’s marketing and communications. He also went onto say that they two companies share some engineering efficiencies, ‘similar in many ways to other global automakers.’

Interesting.

What does Hyundai think of it’s relationship with Kia?

Spokesman Jim Trainor for Hyundai Motor America said that the company treated Kia “just like any other competitor in the automotive space.”

They are our competitor.  From an HR perspective, nothing is shared.  We have total complete separate policies, practices, everything.  Our goal each month is beat Hyundai, just like we wanna beat Honda, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, etc…

Everyone know’a that the Kia is a re-skinned Hyundai, but that is okay when you look at any other brand sharing their cars. I have to hand to to this brand for taking the bull by the horns and not being afraid to stand up and surpass everyone. I would like Hyundai/Kia to remember that history repeats itself. If you want to stay number 1 you will have to keep your prices to where your buyers don’t start looking at other brands and price yourself out of the market. Toyota used to be affordable and lost site and almost toppled itself. Every company had a lesson from them. Don’t be the lesson, but keep on being the teacher the way you have been doing.
