Alfa Romeo won’t make full return to U.S. until late 2013
In 1995, Alfa Romeo decided to kill the brand in the United States due to slow sales and a reputation for poor quality. However, in 200, then Fiat Group CEO Paolo Cantarella said that the brand will return to the United States in 2003 as a part of Fiat’s ill-fated alliance with General Motors. Well, it never happened.
Alfa Romeo will now be returning under new Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne in late 2012. However, a full return isn’t scheduled until the end of 2013.
In late 2012, Alfa Romeo will start selling a few units of the Alfa Romeo 4C coupe in the United States. That will be followed by a compact crossover in mid 2013 along with the mid-sized Giulia sedan by the end of 2013 at the earliest.
So yes, Alfa’s return to the United States has been 10 years in the making.
