Report: Subaru WRX line to go completely independent from Impreza

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX

Subaru’s WRX has some major changes in its future. One major change is that it will be completely independent of the Impreza, after sharing parts for almost 20 years. It will therefore being undergoing a major overhaul.

So far, one very sporty rendering has surfaced showing just how far out Subaru is willing to go with the WRX’s next generation. Although this is just one idea, it is likely that others to follow will be just as far off from the WRX we all know.

Not only will the new car be visually different, but Subaru notes that the next generation will be mostly comprised of its own unique parts, apart from the platform. Subaru plans on investing its highest quality parts into the car, which will also help make the distinction from the Impreza. Lightening the car will be another priority, as well. There is even a possibility of a new name.

The joint FT-86 project with Toyota seemed to spark some of the creative freedom that is being embraced with the 2014 WRX. Because Subaru is so heavily involved in motor sports, it is looking to take a good amount of influence from that aspect of the brand.

Subaru is defiently going in a good direction here, with top quality parts and engineering, and motor sport in mind. 2014 should be a great year for the WRX. Expect to see a price range around $26,000 to $29,000.
