Report: Dodge Magnum could make a comeback by the hands of Ralph Gilles

Dodge Magnum SRT8 Concept

Remember the Dodge Magnum. How could you not? The model was one attention commanding ‘gangsta’ vehicle the generated a lot of buzz with tuners and those that loved to ‘roll deep.’ Could Chrysler now be considering to bring it back? Maybe – since the model remains a thing of pride inside the company’s Auburn Hills headquarter.

“With the Magnum, we owned the station wagon segment,” Ralph Gilles, the Chrysler design chief who helped create the wagon, told The New York Times. “It was always a pleasure to go to car shows and trade fairs and see the number of Magnums that owners had personalized with such obvious loving care.”

Gilles said that the Dodge Magnum model “was single-handedly killed by one executive who is no longer with the company. He’s retired. A lot of people in the company still like that vehicle — a lot.”

Gilles, who is now also the head of Chrysler’s new high-performance SRT brand, could be the guy to bring the Magnum back.

“A lot of things that weren’t possible back then, now are. The Dodge Viper, certainly, is a likely choice for an SRT version,” Gilles said. “Also, we know we need an entry-level vehicle of some kind.”

When asked if the Magnum could be back, Gilles said:”Stay tuned.” “Great things are coming. That’s all I can say.”
