Volkswagen Group’s global first-half deliveries for 2011 surpassed 4 million cars and SUVs for the first time, due to demand in all markets, the German automaker said. Company sales of the Volkswagen brand increased 12 percent in the first six months to more than 2.5 million vehicles.
“The positive trend for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand in the first half of the year is very encouraging. It would be a major success if we could keep up this momentum during the second six months,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
VW is now counting on growth in Brazil, Russia, India and mostly China to help beat Toyota as the world’s biggest automaker by 2018.
