Nissan takes LEAF on ‘Drive Electric Tour’ to 26 cities, sales top 4,000 units

Nissal LEAF - Drive Electric Tour

Nissan North America, Inc. just begun a 26 city tour throughout the U.S., offering test drives of its electric car, the Nissan LEAF. The is the second half of the “Drive Electric Tour”, which begins in Long Island, N.Y.

The LEAF recently reached 4,000 units delivered in the U.S. since it rolled out in December 2010, and is the first mass market zero-emission, fully electric vehicle available. Growing in popularity, the LEAF can presently be found in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, and Washington, and its availability will be expanding, soon.

Jon Brancheau, NNA VP of marketing says “As the Nissan LEAF gains momentum in its U.S. rollout, more consumers have expressed the desire to get behind the wheel and experience gas-free driving for themselves…We’re thrilled to bring the ‘Drive Electric Tour’ to new cities across the country as well as revisit several key markets where consumer interest continues to grow.”

So far, the tour has provided about 50,000 test drives, and allows interested consumers the chance to explore the electric cars’ features and functions, and, of course, to take it for a ride. Those who are already proud LEAF owners have been welcomed to mingle, as well.

Refresher: Power for the Nissan LEAF comes from a 107-hp electric-motor that runs on power supplied by lithium-ion cells. On a full-charge, the Nissan LEAF allows for a driving range of 100 miles with a top speed of 90 mph. A full charge takes up to 8 hours on a standard 200V outlet. Buyers can opt for the DC 50kW quick-charger, which recharges the battery up to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. Prices for the 2011 Nissan LEAF will start at $32,780 but with a federal tax-credit prices will come in as low as $25,280, or for a lease payment of $349 a month.
