Report: Lotus to debut Exige rally car at Frankfurt

British magazine CAR has learned that Lotus will launch an Exige-based rally car at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Lotus recently announced it is widening its motorsport activities to offer a race car for GT rallying categories. There is no word on which formula (WRC or IRC) the Lotus Exige rally car will compete in.

While Lotus no longer produces the Exige at its Hethel headquarters, a successor is in the works.

According to Claudio Berro, Lotus will homologate the 300 models in time for launch in January 2012.

The next Lotus Exige will be engineered as a lairy rear-wheel drive racer and will slot beneath the Super 2000s.
