Mazda receives 6,000 orders for Demio in Japan before it even goes on sale

Mazda has started selling the new Mazda2 in Japan, where it is know as the Demio. The Mazda Demio is the first model to get the company’s new fuel-saving SKYACTIV engine and transmission technologies.

Mazda said that since June 9 the company has received around 6,500 orders for the car before the start of sales, equivalent to 108 percent of the monthly sales target of 6,000 vehicles.

The Mazda Demio starts at 1.15 million yen in Japan or $14,240 in USD.

The Japanese automaker plans to improve fuel-economy of its cars by 30 percent by 2015 compared to 2008 levels. It has pans to introduce hybrids, plug-in hybrids and all-electric cars.
