NHTS Vehicle Theft Prevention Infographic may just shock you

While auto theft has reached itslowest level since 1967, a lot of cars are still being taken away from their owners. Did you know that 40-50% of vehicle theft is due to driver error; or the top two months for vehicle thefts are July and August; or only about 57% of stolen vehicles are recovered.

To show the impact of auto theft in the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has put together a nice little infographic that just might scare/shock you.

Something you won’t see in the infographic? The top ten reported stolen vehicles from NHTSA’s 2008 theft rate data compilation. The list includes the Dodge Magnum, Pontiac Grand Prix, Mitsubishi Galant, Chrysler 300, Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Azera and the Dodge Charger.

Guess thieves really love Chrysler vehicles.
