Ram 2500 HD to get new 6-speed automatic transmission

2011 RAM 2500 Heavy Duty

Chrysler’s Ram pickups will be adding a new 6-speed automatic transmission to its 2012 2500 Heavy Duty trucks. The 2012 Ram 2500 HD and 3500 HD will now be available with diesel and gasoline engine with a 6-speed transmission that replaces the 5-speed 545RFE transmission in the 2500 HD.

“The commercial truck segment is all about total cost of ownership,” added Diaz. “When you account for fuel economy, brake wear, tire wear and the best powertrain warranty in the business, Ram Chassis Cab trucks offer the lowest cost of ownership. Also, the new Ram Cargo Van, with its class-leading capability and a lower total cost of ownership, is a great vehicle choice for small businesses and commercial fleets.”

The new 6-speed transmission has Electronic Range Select mode that lets drivers manually determine the limits for upshifts or downshifts based on road speed and engine speed.

Chrysler will offer the new 6-speed automatic transmission with a 350-hp 6.7 liter Cummins High Output Turbo Diesel engine and the 383-hp 5.7 liter V8 gasoline Hemi engine.
