Blake Griffin, pro basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers, was signed to a multi year deal with Kia Motors America as the global spokesman.
Back in February at the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Griffin jumped over a Kia Optima to slam his winning dunk. This lead to commercials and YouTube video that brought on millions of views online.
Kia’s sales in the US have increased 45 percent in the last five months, growing more quickly than most brands, and taking 3.8 percent of the U.S. market. In comparison to last May’s numbers, Kia sales are up 53 percent.
Kia’s vice president of marketing makes a statement about the recent promotional move, saying “With Kia’s U.S. market share at an all-time high and rising fast, we are more focused than ever before on continuing to raise the brand’s profile with highly visible strategic partnerships, and expanding our presence in professional basketball by adding Blake Griffin as a global spokesperson will allow us to continue our momentum.”
Expect to see Griffin representing Kia at many public appearances, advertising campaigns, and a multitude of other promotional opportunities.
