Poll: Should Acura do a TL Coupe?

Acura has been laying pretty low with its products and unfortunately, some of the more recent models have been a hit or miss. It’s a shame too since Acura was one of the first Japanese luxury brands that prided themselves for being wonderful alternatives to the European industry leaders. Some examples that come to mind are the Legend, the original TL Type-S, and the phenomenal Acura CL luxury sports coupe.

But it’s been almost six years since Acura has produced a coupe of some sort and with their competitors continuing to lead in the segment such as the Audi A5, BMW 3-Series, Infiniti G37 and more recently, the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe and the Cadillac CTS Coupe, Acura is long over due for a coupe of some sort.

Now, I’m not here to get your hopes up as there has been almost no speculation for an Acura coupe. And reasons why Acura haven’t planned a coupe are unknown as us enthusiast know that they are very much capable of producing one.

Do you think Acura should produce a TL Coupe? Cast your vote below.

Either way, a member on Acura’s online enthusiast community spotted a photoshop of what a current Acura TL Coupe, or CL successor would potentially look like. And I can’t help but think that Acura seriously needs to get on board with this idea because well, look at it! While the TL is either a love it or hate it design, it’s almost guaranteed that chopping off two doors on any sedan can yield epic results.

Sure Acura’s controversial face could be reworked during the time it would take to research, develop and produce one. Not to mention, if they were to follow through, it would definitely make the mid-sized luxury sports coupe segment far more interesting.

What say you egmCarTech followers? The idea of a CL successor certainly does wet our appetites. And the idea of a new CL Type-S makes it even more enticing. If you Honda/Acura boffins are reading this, please do it!

the rear end of that car already looks like a CTS coupe.

The CL was never a hit so this a bit risky.  @ least now they have SH-AWD instead of just FWD – so it can get above 280hp among other things.  Me thinks a TSX coupe would be a better start.  Not even going to bother dreaming about a new NSX …

Acura=ugly fail. Why would you want another ugly Acura? The TL is a giant turd. The best Acura coupe was the NSX, Legend and Integra. I’ve moved on to BMW and could not be happier

Do people even buy Acura’s anymore?

As much as naysayers hate it, Acura does continue to sell & their increase in sales this year outpaces the luxury market increase overall (until the natural disasters).  Even the much ballyhooed TL outsold the Genesis which everyone goes on & on about bc it has RWD, V8, Coupe (which is much cheaper than the sedan) options plus a lower price tag.  Honda’s lack of R&D on the Accord based TL also means that their profit margins are probably higher than the likes of the Genesis … so they are not going anywhere anytime soon.  I do agree, tho, that they have a lot of work to do but there is no doom & gloom haters keep forecasting …
