The Mazda CX-5 SUV will be the first to get the brand’s innovative ‘Sky Activ’ technologies for a 2012 UK release.

Mazda will be integrating the technology further into their line up in the future, allowing it to stand out on its own. Sky Activ includes upgrades like its modular platform, that Mazda will be able to use in almost all of its current line up. Changes will also include an all new transmission and suspension, and improved engineering.

The CX-5 will come with the new suspension, and a 2.2-liter turbodesiel engine that puts out 173-hp at 310-lb ft. It will also receive the new six-speed manual transmission. The upgrades will improve fuel economy by 20% and CO2 emissions will also be significantly reduced.

The production Mazda CX-5 will debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and was previewed by the Mazda Minagi Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
