GM CEO Dan Akerson purchases a condo in downtown Detroit

While Dan Akerson may not be a ‘car guy’, he’s definitely starting to get used to it in his new role of General Motors CEO and Chairman. Akerson said that he’ll be putting down his roots in Detroit and is purchasing a condo in downtown, six blocks from the Renaissance Center.

62-year old Akerson works out three or four times a week at the Detroit Athletic Club and recently joined the Bloomfield Hills Country Club. He also attended a Detroit Tigers game last week, against his hometown Minnesota Twins.

“I thought it was important to get into the community,” Akerson said. “It’s a great city. It’s got a lot of character.”

Akerson became CEO of GM on Sept. 1 and added the title of board chairman on Jan. 1.
