Long commutes can have negative effect on health, marriage

Traffic

As someone who commutes an hour one way to work, I state with confidence that I don’t believe anyone enjoys a long commute. With that said, there are some statistics that are showing that it goes beyond being boring or stressful, and that it can effect health and healthy relationships.

There is a 40% increase in chance of divorce for couples with a 45 minute or longer commute. This holds true even if only one person travels. It can also have a negative impact on many aspects of the commuters health. Studies show that they can result in obesity, body aches, and a multitude of other issues.

Commuters may benefit from finding mental distractions from the stress and time consumption of the commute. Share tips with your fellow readers if you have them.
