BMW has no plans to show the 2012 BMW 1-Series until the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September – oh wait, we now live in 2011 and leaked images and details are very well a normal thing. What you’re looking at here are the leaked images of the 2012 BMW 1-Series Hatchback prior to its official debut set for Frankfurt.

So what’s different this time around? A brand new exterior design, which seems to be inspired by the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo, a larger interior, new interior features including a larger iDrive display, BMW Apps, collision warning system, Internet connectivity and an ergonomic design.

Power will come from a range of new engines including gasoline and diesel units in Europe. The U.S.-spec will most likely get the new 240-hp 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder that will debut in the BMW Z4 sDrive28i. The 3.0L TwinPower Turbo making 300-hp is expected to remain. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a new 8-speed automatic.

Sales of the 2012 BMW 1-Series hatch will start in Europe later this fall.
