The Mustang may meet the return of a turbocharged four banger in the future. The 2013 Ford Taurus is going to come with a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder. By 2015 the Mustang may be powered by a larger, 2.3-liter take on the Taurus’ motor, with a change in the way the cylinder heads are configured.
It doesn’t stop there. A turbocharged, 2.7-liter V-6 is also in the works at Ford. With a multitude of possibilities, the Mustang is certainly one of them. Other candidates to use the new engine include the Fusion or the Edge.
The 5.0 will still remain with the V-8 Coyote, the force behind the Mustang GT. There are no plans to take this engine off the market, but it might be receiving upgrades in the near future, such as direct injection, to help stretch mileage. A turbocharger is also a possibility, but no plans for production have been made yet. New motors are all scheduled for 2015.
