BMW 1-Series M Coupe

We absolutely love rumors here at egmCarTech – they make day-to-day automotive news just a little more interesting. Did you know that BMW is considering an M version of the 9-Series? Well, because they’re not and the 9-series doesn’t exist and we’re just kidding.

However, recent rumors suggest that BMW has filed for trademark rights to ‘M2′ and ‘BMW M2.’ Apparently the German automaker is considering launching a 2-Series lineup that will consist of a 2-Series Coupe, the 2-Series Convertible and the M version BMW M2.

So what is the 2-Series all about? Rumors say they are essentially the next generation 1-series coupe and convertible, but renamed as the 2-series.

We’re not sure why BMW would change the 1-Series nameplate to 2-Series – but that’s what rumors suggest.

Just when I was beginning to warm up to the 1M as the kindered spirit of M3′s of yore, now we have to flummox with another mid level.
OK, BMW, here’s what you should do. Odd Numbers, like 1, 3, 5 and 7 are the important bits that you don’t mess with for the folks who have always bought your products, for the people who actually like to drive. Even numbers 2,4,6 and 8 series should have a different BMW logo, say with green instead of the blue and be marketed somewhere else to people who like fashionable things, eco-good-ness and AWD.
