According to a report by German magazine WirtschaftsWoche, the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover may be produced in North America, a move that will help cut costs, the report said.

The Volkswagen Jetta and the Passat are already produced in North America and a proposal to produce the Tiguan is under consideration, reported WirtschaftsWoche. Currently, the Tiguan is produced at Volkswagen’s Wolfburg plant in North Germany.

Volkswagen celebrated the opening of its assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee last week. The new plant is expected to play a major role in helping V-dub knock out Toyota as the world’s largest automaker.

It is unclear whether the Tiguan will be produced in Chattanooga, the report. Volkswagen is currently building the 2012 Passat there.
