2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG

The product planners at Mercedes-Benz are up to something. According to reports coming out of the UK, the company is planning a high-performance four-door model that would fit about the Mercedes-Benz CLS and give it a rival to the Bentley Continental GT and high-performance models of the Porsche Panamera lineup.

Sources say that the model will have a more dramatic scheme than the CLS and will feature AMG engines and chassis tuning to justify a premium price tag – and by premium we mean considerably higher than the CLS.

Mercedes-Benz hopes to put the model alongside the CL coupe for markets (think Middle East) that want a high-performance, ultra-expensive four door sports car.

So why not just badge it a Maybach? Apparently there is a Maybach spin-off of the car in works.

Why not just stick making it a Maybach instead of Mercedes-Benz at all? What’s the point of that?

Does Benz really feel confident about this? I feel like Bentley and Porsche are just one step ahead of Benz, don’t think they can just start competing with them
