Let's Talk Numbers: BMW ActiveHybrid 7 vs. Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

Last week, we here at egmCarTech launched a new segment called ‘Let’s Talk Numbers,’ where we take two or more vehicles and do a straight number battle and leave it up to you guys to decide which car is a better buy. We launched the segment with two new, fast and gas-guzzling supercars – the Ferrari 458 Italia vs. the new McLaren MP4-12C.

Today we’re going to go the more fuel-efficient route and put two luxury hybrid sedans in a head-to-head numerical battle. Today’s ‘Let’s Talk Numbers’ battle is between the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 vs. the new 2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid.

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid without a doubt… why would I pick a BMW over Porsche?

  • Jon

If I was worried about fuel-economy then that Porsche Panamera S Hybrid sounds pretty amazing…performance wise the BMW takes it

Holy smoke: 34.5 mpg vs. 24 mpg?!!!
That’s not a small difference… In this class (the hybrid-version class), there is no denying in Porsche’s fuel economy. If you choose a hybrid (and you’ll make ‘some’ miles), it’ll be the Panamera (or Cayenne).

Honestly, hybrids with big engines make no sense. I laugh everytime I see someone in a LS 600h, now I get to add the active 7 to my list.

I would definitely have to go with the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid on this one.

The bmw is putting out numbers like a v-12 on v-6 fuel economy?!…that’s an engineering marvel….it’s a nicer ride than the porsche, faster too…..it loses on the fuel economy, but so what.
