Police may get interceptors based on 2013 Ford Taurus

At the 2011 New York Auto Show, Ford unveiled the 2013 Taurus and Taurus SHO. Apparently, the debut of the new Taurus had some folks wondering if the upcoming Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, which is based on the Taurus, will also see the upgrades. Well, it just might.

A top Ford official said that the Taurus isn’t planned to take over the Crown Victoria until it dies, so the new 2013 Taurus may be following you in your rear-view-mirror since few police agencies have ordered them and since deliveries aren’t scheduled to begin later this year.

Refresher: The 2012 Ford Police Interceptor is offered with two V6 engine options. The first is a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 263-hp and offers E85 capability. It is 25 percent more efficient than the current 4.6L SOHC V8 offered in the Crown Victoria. The second offering is Ford’s new 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 making 365-hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
