While covering the 2011 New York Auto Show, our host Anna Tarasova had the chance to talk to Scion PR representative Craig Taguchi about the brand’s new Scion FR-S Concept. We asked Taguchi what the reasoning was behind bringing the much-anticapted Toyota/Subaru rear-wheel-drive sports car (the Toyota FT-86) to the United States as a Scion instead of a Toyota.

Inspired by the AE86, the FR-S (Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport) is going to be powered by a flat 2.0-liter boxer engine in at the front making somewhere close to 200-hp. Scion says that the naturally-aspirated engine is innovative, being the first boxer to incorporate Toyota’s D4-S injection system, which utilizes both direct and port injection, resulting in increased horsepower and torque throughout the entire powerband, without sacrificing MPG.

Check out our video interview with Craig Taguchi after the jump.
