2011 New York: 2012 Volkswagen Golf R

A couple of months ago, Volkswagen confirmed that Golf R will be coming to the United States. We happened to come across the new Golf R at the Volkswagen stand at the 2011 New York Auto Show and took some pictures of it for you guys.

Known as “the most powerful Volkswagen sports performance vehicle ever built.” The performance halo vehicle will be coming to the United States in 2012 at the request of many V-dub enthusiasts.

The Golf R display in New York is a U.S.-spec model with the steering on the right.

Refresher: The 2010 Volkswagen Golf R is powered by a 2.0L TSI direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder making 266-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a DSG dual-clutch (6-speed manual as standard), the Golf R goes from 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds with a top speed that is electronically-governed at 155 mph.

    And why not? My local VW dealer said that both trannies are coming over. Why object to the DSG that shifts faster than one can with the manual? Remember, half of the folks who buy Golfs buy the DSG…
