The BMW 1-Series based ActiveE electric coupe was debuted today at the 2011 New York Auto Show, marking the first ever production electric automobile by the German make.

BMW announced prior to today’s final debut that it will begin leasing a total of 700 ActiveEs to the public in the metropolitan New York area, as well as several select others around the US of A. At $499 a month with a down payment of about $2,250, the ActiveE could be leased for 24-months and reservations will begin around late summer 2011. I’d imagine they’d sell out within the first day so if you want one, stay tuned with egmCarTech about the reservation date.
