2011 New York: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 roars into NYC

Jeep unveiled the very anticipated Grand Cherokee SRT-8 earlier today at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

Powered by a 6.4L HEMI V8 good for 465hp and 465 lb-ft of torque with a 5-speed automatic, the new SRT8 goes from 0-60 in a blistering 4.8 seconds and onto a flat top of 155 mph. And if the conditions are right, the quarter mile comes in the mid-13 second range.

Fuel economy figures weren’t released because well, we wouldn’t expect them to be great but Jeep promises a 13% improvement on highway travels and a 450 mile range.

We loved the old GC SRT8 because it offered a unique driving experience that would make every petrolhead’s inner child go berserk. But it lacked a little in the build quality and refinement departments and rode on a body-on-frame chassis.

The new Grand Cherokee has been based off of the Mercedes-Benz W164 ML, giving a nice sturdy unibody and fully independent suspension front and rear. Coupled with a HEMI and some performance tuning and it doesn’t get any more badass than this.
