Nothing shows off a new vehicle better than putting it in front of thousands of people in Washington, D.C. during the annual Cherry Blossom Parade. That’s what Dodge ended up doing this past Saturday but things didn’t really turn out as they’d hoped.

To show off the new 2011 Dodge Durango’s towing capability, the SUV had been towing a parade float carrying a band when black smoke started coming out from beneath its hood. Firefighters quickly detached the float from the Duragno and moved bystanders back.

How did it happen and where did the driver go? No one knows.

Our thoughts? The 2011 Dodge Durango is still a fine vehicle and this just happens to be an unfortunate and unlucky situation for it.

Check out the video after the jump.
