Opel AG’s product planning chief Frank Weber has left General Motors to pursue “other business opportunities,” the company said today. Weber is leaving GM after less than two years on the job after overseeing all future planning for Opel vehicles.

Weber was also the lead engineer in the development of the Chevrolet Volt.

Word on the street is that Weber left to work for a competitor. GM spokesman Klaus-Peter Martin declined to elaborate on why Weber left or where he was going.
