In February, FoMoCo announced a recall for the F-150 over air bags that may deploy when not needed. The recalled applied to F-150 models assembled at Ford’s plant in Norfolk, Virginia. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now wants Ford to expand the recall over air bag defects in its F-150.

NHTSA’s David Strickland said that the agency is discussing the issue with Ford. “We would like to see something larger” than the February recall of 144,000 F-150s in the U.S. and Canada,” he said.

Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood confirmed the talks but decline to comment whether the company agrees the recall should be expanded.

“We are committed to safety and handling this matter in an open and transparent manner,” Sherwood said.
