Report: Ferrari 599 replacement will be faster, lighter, more hardcore
The improved power coming from the 6.3 V12 in the new 2012 Ferrari FF means that the Italian supercar maker’s next-generation front-engined GT supercar will be even more powerful.
Upgrading the 6.3L V12, which is already good for 651-hp in the new Ferrari FF, the replacement for the 599 due next year is likely to push more than 700-hp – and that should be more than appropriate for Ferrari’s range-topping front-engined GT car. The replacement for the Ferrari 599 will also receive a bunch of weight-saving technology with extensive use of carbon fiber.
What it won’t get is the Ferrari FF’s 4RM four-wheel-drive system. Ferrari says that there is definitely potential to use the RM four-wheel-drive system elsewhere in its lineup but its high-end GT cars will have to remain rear-wheel-drive.
Something more powerful than the Ferrari 599 GTO? We’re looking forward to it.
Refresher: Power for the Ferrari 599 GTO comes from a 6.0L V12 engine making 661-hp with a maximum torque of 457 lb-ft. Mated to a F1 6-speed gearbox, the Ferrari 599 GTO goes from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of more than 208 mph. Ferrari says that the 599 GTO set a record lap at Fiorano in 1 minute and 24 seconds.
