The BMW X1 has become a pretty nice sales success for the German automaker and if rumors are to be believed, BMW is considering an M edition of the compact crossover.

Reports suggest that power for the BMW X1 will come from a turbocharged 3.0L 6-cylinder engine making 315-hp with a maximum torque of 332 lb-ft. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the BMW X1 M should be able to run from 0 to 62 mph in around 5 seconds. We’re not sure why BMW wouldn’t choose the 3.0L inline 6-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine making 335-hp.

Of course BMW will also add a new M body kit, a sport-tuned suspension and better brakes.

There is no word on when we can expect to see the BMW X1… well, I mean, we’re still waiting for the X1 to hit North American roads.
