Following Ford’s announcement of restricting the colors black and red due to supplier restrictions as a result of the quake in Japan, Chrysler asked its dealers to restrict orders of 10 colors. The move is being made due to a potential shortage of a paint pigment from a supplier in Japan.

In a letter to dealers yesterday, Steve Beahm, Chrysler vice president of U.S. sales operations, said the Auburn Hills automaker will restrict ordering of vehicle colors including brilliant black, blackberry, deep cherry red, redline, inferno, bronze star, rugged brown, hunter green, ivory and billet metallic.

“Please submit any outstanding orders by the close of business March 28 so that we may work towards prioritizing these special orders,” the letter said.
