With skyrocketing gas prices hurting everyone’s wallet, there is money to be saved somewhere. Riding public transportation saves individuals an average of $9,904 per year, and $825 per month, based on the national average price of gas on March 4, 2011, which was $3.47 per gallon, as reported by AAA.

“As gas prices rise, using public transportation is the quickest way people can beat high gasoline prices,” states William Millar, president American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

The national average cost for a monthly-unreserved parking space in a business district in the US is $161.56, according to Colliers International Parking Rate Study.

Obviously, those prices, as well as of those of gas, are volatile across the country and very depending on the metropolis. A commuter in The Big Apple would save on average of $1,198 per month, or $14,376. In Las Vegas however, those figures would be $764, and $9,164, respectively.
