With the national average price of gasoline north of $3.50 per gallon, FoMoCo CEO Alan Mulally says that his company is in a much better position to withstand the fallout that rising fuel prices bring upon the industry than it was three years ago, when gas prices broke $4.00 per gallon.

Mulally admitted that the company didn’t expect prices to rise so rapidly, but also stated that Ford is “positioned with the right product line now.”

The company is now offering more small and mid-size vehicles that offer wider sales appeal in the face of rising prices. Among those vehicles are the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus.

Lawmakers have urged the Obama administration to package the South Korea deal with pending trade agreements with Colombia and Panama.
