The Toyota FT-86 and the Subaru Rear-Wheel Drive Sports CarH are two of the most anticipated vehicles from Japan in a while. According to reports, Toyota may also consider a hybrid version of the FT-86 after the gasoline model hits markets in 2012.

The rear-wheel drive sports coupe was shown in Geneva last week and was said to be ‘clearest indication yet as to the final design.’ The model will be built alongside a sister car from Subaru, which will also supply the 2.0L flat 4-cylinder boxer gasoline engine.

When asked by AutoExpress about whether a hybrid version of the FT-86 will be built, a Toyota spokesman said: “Why not? It’s no secret we’ve been considering a hybrid sports car for a while.”

Of course that doesn’t mean it will definitely happen but it’s something Toyota is probably studying.
