A recent recall of certain Mazda6 vehicles was caused by Yellow Sac spiders found nesting in a gasoline tank vent tube, causing air pressure issues which were leading to cracks that created the potential to cause fires.

Apparently, the same spiders were found in the same area on 2008 and 2009 model year Honda Accords, but those vehicles are not experiencing cracking as the Mazdas did. “It’s just not happening in our cars,” Honda spokeswoman Christina Ra said.

Honda has decided against a recall at this time. Honda released a TSB similar to Mazda, that instructs dealers to, after clearing the nest, install a spring in the tube to block spiders from entering in the future.
