When you hear of luxury automakers going head-to-head for the No. 1 spot, you usually hear of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus gunning for the top spot. Well, if you take a look at the numbers from February, there is an unusual bright spot where Buick outsold Lexus – for the second month in a row.

If that’s not surprising enough for you, Buick also ended up selling Audi, Acura and Mercedes-Benz (if you don’t count sales of the Sprinter work van). Only BMW ended up outselling Buick with the new 2011 BMW X3 helping out – even then, BMW only outsold Buick by 100 units.

Dig a little deeper and it gets more surprising – Buick only has four vehicles in its showrooms including the Enclave, LaCrosse, Lucerne and the Regal.

In February, Buick sold a total of 15,807 units, up 73.3 percent from Feb. 2010; Lexus ended up selling 13,814 units, up 0.2 percent. In January, Buick sold 29,076 units while Lexus sold 26,674.
