Rolls-Royce Motor Cars confirmed today that they are developing a fully-electric powered Phantom known as the 102EX. The Rolls-Royce 102EX will make its world debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and will continue on as a test bed to gather research data.

While there are no plans to produce the Rolls-Royce 102EX, the model will be crucial in helping the company make future decisions on alternative drivetrains for the brand. It will also serve as a concept to start dialogue with existing owners and stakeholders whether or not such a model should be produced.

“We have engineered the world’s first battery electric vehicle for the ultra-luxury segment,” said CEO Torsten Müller-Otvos, speaking from the company’s headquarters in Goodwood. “With this vehicle, we begin an exploration into alternative drive-trains, seeking clarity on which alternative technologies may be suitable to drive Rolls-Royce motor cars of the future.”

The Rolls-Royce 102EX electric Phantom will go on a global test tour across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. Along the way, Rolls-Royce will be asking test drivers to provide feedback on their experiences, thoughts and concerns directly to Rolls-Royce.

Tech specs? You’ll have to wait until the 2011 Geneva Motor Show for that.
