Infiniti’s new entry-level model to get Mercedes 4-banger turbo
Earlier this week, Infiniti teased its new 2011 Geneva Concept. Known as the Infiniti Etherea, the model ‘is a compact luxury model that previews how a future entry-level Infiniti could look.’ According to reports coming out of the UK, the entry level Infiniti will get a turbocharged Mercedes-Benz 4-cylinder engine.
The engine will most likely be the new direct-injected 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that recently made its debut in the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The engine produces 201-hp and 229 lb-ft of torque.
As a part of a deal between Mercedes-Benz and Renault / Nissan, Mercedes will get access to Renault/Nissan’s electric-systems and global infrastructure.
Sources say that Mercedes’ influence in future Infiniti models won’t stop with the production Etherea. Rumors say that Infiniti is likely to get Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation S-Class platform for a larger model.
