Volkswagen unlikely to produce Volkswagen Polo R

Like the GTI version of the new Volkswagen Polo? Looking forward to a Volkswagen Polo R? Well, don’t. The German automaker is unlikely to launch an R version of the Polo, despite Audi having produced an all-wheel-drive version of its PQ25 platform for the new Audi A1 quattro.

It has been long rumored that a R version of the Polo is coming ever since Audi announced it would do a quattro version of the A1. However, a source inside Volkswagen R GmbH told AutoCar, that it is likely never to see the light of day since the sticker price it would command.

“We already have Polo GTI at £19,000 and then the Golf GTI is only another £6000 more; it would be difficult to price the Polo R between them” the source said.”
