Soon you’ll be able to pay and do more things with your BMW key fob

While smartphone manufacturers have been incorporating NFC (Near Field Communications) technology to effectuate the wireless exchange of data between devices, BMW has more advanced ideas for the technology. For its next generation ConnectedDrive, BMW will incorporate a wide range of functions for car keys and key fobs using NFC transponders.

This makes sense, as a car key is something people are likely to always be traveling with. The technology can be used for tasks as simple as opening gates and doors, and even handle more intricate transactions, such as purchases, hotel reservations, and even plane tickets.

The success of the system however, is dependent on future infrastructure, that must be widely implemented.
