Marchionne: Chrysler and Fiat could merge into one company
Sergio Marchionne has been talking about a Chrysler IPO for quite some time, as well as a restructuring of the company’s finances which would make it profitable. The next step, is the potential moving of Fiat to the United States, and having Chrysler and Fiat operated as one company. Chrysler must first however, refinance its high-cost government loans, which it plans to do this year.
“Who knows? In the next two or three years, we could be looking at one entity. It could be based here,” said Marchionne, speaking at the J.D. Power and Associates International Automotive Roundtable.
The Two companies are set to embark on a phase of sharing of technology and platforms, in order to enhance the efficiency of Chrysler and the American appeal of Fiat.
