Ford’s product boss wants to match Volkswagen BlueMotion fuel-economy

FoMoCo has announced that it wants to match the fuel-economy figures set by Volkswagen and its BlueMotion variant vehicles. Global product boss Derek Kuzak said the key to frugality continues to be the main focus during the development of Ford vehicles.

Kuzak and his team are tackling issues such as weight, low rolling resistance and aerodynamics along with further engine technologies to make vehicles as efficient as possible.

Now we’re guessing that means sacrificing some performance as the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion is powered by a 74-hp 1.2L engine. Along with some fuel-saving technologies, the Polo BlueMotion averages 85.7 mpg or 71 mpg in U.S. terms.
