Riding a horse while under the influence is legal in Montana
A public safety video by the Montana Department of Transportation shows a horse picking up a drunk rider at a bar is supposed to be a metaphor to encourage drinkers to get a ride home. However, the clip is being taken literally by some in a state that is well known for its horse riding culture.
Police Chief Troy McGee from Helena said he received calls from residents enquiring if riding a horse while under the influence is legal. McGee’ answer? It is.
Montana law’s definition of a vehicle is pretty clear and excludes those riding under animal power.
Interesting stuff.
