We learned earlier this month that the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 will enter production on Jan. 1, 2012. egmCarTech now has confirmation from its sources at General Motors that the Camaro Z28 will make its public debut at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show on February 9. That means the debut of the Camaro Z28 will take place the same month that the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible goes on sale.

It is widely believed that the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 will be powered by the same 6.2L supercharged V8 found in the Cadillac CTS-V lineup. The engine produces a neck-snapping 556-hp and a maximum torque of 551 lb-ft of torque. In the Caddy CTS-Vs, the engine is mated to a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual with a dual-disc clutch or a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted shift controls.

We’re pretty sure that the 2012 Camaro Z28 will give the Ford Shelby GT500 a run for its money.

I just hope Chevy can trim some fat and not simply have HP to over come weight burden. I am positive that the Z28 will be engineered to beat the GT500.

I second that weight loss wish, some MR shocks would be wicked sweet too. way to get the exclusive guys!

After 40 years, I still think my 1970 Z-28 was the best looking & best Camaro made.

I’m seeing cars weigh more these days due to all the airbags and ABS stuff feds require for safety. I think 555hp would negate the weight. I need the airbags when I flip this car at The Ring.

I’m pushing 50 years old. If you would have told me as a 19 year old kid in 1980 when high performance was long gone that GM would eventually go broke, but come back in a year and build a street legal blown stroker small block Chevy Z28 with 555hp I would have declared you a charlatan with overwhelming public support.

America is back! Back to declaring war on Japan with the largest worldwide recall ever leading a 40% profit loss in only one year. Not to mention the long term effect. The new leaner and meaner GM. No more baseball, hot dogs and apple pie.
