Audi has no plans for a Volkswagen Up! version, considering Audi Q1 SUV

Volkswagen Up! minicar is one of the most anticipated subcompact vehicles but Audi has no interest in developing its own versions, according to Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said. Reports have long speculated that Audi is working on its own version of the Up! – internally known as “AO.”

“I cannot imagine that we will have a new model below our current A1 entry-level car,” Stadler told Automotive News Europe.

Stadler said that he still sees potential in the Q lineup of SUVs. Following the Audi Q5, the Volkswagen luxury brand has confirmed a smaller Q3. Stadler said that while the company has not reached a final decision, they are also considering a smaller SUV that could be named the Q1.

Audi currently has 37 model variants and has plans to extend that number to 42 by 2015.
